Volunteering Opportunties

September 17th, 2009

Are you interested in visiting an elderly senior or helping a blind person maintain independence by reading their mail to them?  What if you don’t have very much time but would like to be called occasionally to trim some bushes for an elderly person or take them to a doctor’s appointment?

What makes Volunteers in Action unique is that we focus on building relationships with individuals. You won’t just be volunteering your time to complete tasks, you will be investing in the life of an individual and supporting them to bring them out of isolation, help them to remain independent, and show them that someone cares about them.

Whatever your schedule, time commitment, or area of interest, we can find an opportunity for you to serve.

Current Opportunities:

Senior Companion (2)

Summary of the Position: Visit with and provide some homemaking care to a senior who is living on their own in order to decrease their isolation and enable them to live independently for as long as possible.

Time Commitment: 4-5 hours a month

Location: Littleton and NW Denver

Reader for the Visually Impaired (2)

Summary of the Position: Visit with and read mail for a visually impaired individual.

Time Commitment: 4-5 hours a month

Location: Sheridan and N. Denver

Please contact Rachel, the volunteer coordinator, at 303.713.9144 or by email at rachelm@volunteersinaction.info if you are interested in volunteering in any capacity.

Overview of VIA

September 17th, 2009

To volunteers, supporters, partners, and those who are just finding out about Volunteers in Action-

We are so glad that you have found us, and look forward to working with you in the future. Volunteers in Action is a non-profit organization dedicated to serving Denver, CO. Our vision is to serve the community by providing Christians the opportunity to enhance the lives of individuals by connecting them with underserved people in one-on-one relationships. This manifests itself in two main ways: the Faith in Deed program and the Partners for Success program.

The Faith in Deed program connects caring volunteers with elderly and disabled individuals in their community in one-time and long-term relationships. In general these volunteers consist of senior companions, readers to the visually impaired and one-time opportunities in transportation, yard work and organizing.

The Partners for Success program has two mentoring programs.  The Job Seeker Mentoring Program provides mentoring support for low-income individuals seeking meaningful employment and the 2nd Chance Mentoring Program provides employment assistance to the prisoner re-entry population. Both of these programs are in collaboration with DenverWorks.

Our Mission

Volunteers in Action serves the community by equipping and enabling Christian volunteers and churches to be Christ’s transforming presence.

Our Vision

To further God’s kingdom, Volunteers in action will continue to inspire and support the calling of Christians to be servants in their communities by partnering with churches and agencies to equip and enable volunteers to help others and change lives.
