About Volunteers in Action

Volunteers in Action is a cooperative ministry of a number of area churches that seeks to transform our communities around us by equipping and enabling Christian volunteers to love and serve their neighbors needing help.  Our goal is to enhance the lives of people who are elderly, disabled, low income or simply a neighbor who is struggling by walking alongside them in specific loving and caring ways.

Volunteers in Action also educates and equips deacons and other servant leaders so that they can best bring positive change in their community, assist people who are struggling and needing help and to best carry out their role.

Our Mission

Volunteers in Action serves the community by equipping and enabling Christian volunteers and churches to be Christ's transforming presence.

Our Vision

To further God's Kingdom, Volunteers in Action will continue to inspire and support the calling of Christians to be servants in their communities by partnering with churches and agencies to equip and enable volunteers to help others and change lives.

Our Values

Being Christ's Transforming Presence
Volunteers in Action prayerfully seeks the Holy Spirit's guidance in its efforts to be Christ's transforming presence through equipping and linking volunteers with their neighbors (Luke 10: 27-37), educating church leaders for their role, and resourcing churches to engage with their community.

Building Relationships with the Community
Volunteers in Action furthers God's Kingdom by building a tapestry of mutually supportive relationships amoung volunteers, our neighbors, churches, the community, businesses and collaborative agencies.

Education and Equipping
Volunteers in Action values the continuing education and equipping of deacons, church leaders, and volunteers to best be able to love our neighbors around us.

Respect for Diversity
By including the input of the diverse populations we serve into our programs and planning, Volunteers in Action affirms the dignity of all, serving people of every age, race, gender and creed.

Stewardship
Volunteers in Action values and promotes good stewardship of our time, talents, finances and earthly resources.  Time and talent stewardship requires development of our gifts in order to serve others.  Financial stewardship requires accurate reporting, wise management of resources and encouragement of generous giving.  Earthly stewardship requires responsible management of our natural resources and environment.

Social Justice
Volunteers in Action values seeking justice.  This involves asking the deeper question about "why" some of our more vulnerable neighbors suffer injustice, and then pursuing an answer.  We seek to create awareness of injustice and speak out for justice through advocacy.
