Position Descriptions

Job Title: Grocery Shopper

Summary of the Position: Take an elderly or disabled individual who is living on their own grocery shopping or shop for them, in order to decrease their isolation and enable them to live independently.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Attend Volunteer Orientation

  • Develop relationship with individual

  • Accompany the person to the grocery store and help them with their shopping, or get their groceries for them

  • Encourage, support and pray for individual

  • Submit monthly reports to Volunteer Coordinator

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Patience and Kindness

  • Good listener

  • Own a vehicle in good working condition

  • Good driving record and valid license

Benefits:

  • Develop mutually beneficial relationship

  • Involvement in meaningful Christian service

  • Excess Liability Insurance Coverage

 Time Commitment: Approximately two hours every other week.

Job Title: Friendly Visitor

Summary of the Position: Visit with and provide support to an individual in order to decrease their isolation.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Attend Volunteer Orientation

  • Develop a relationship with an individual by visiting them at their home and, if appropriate, taking them to do things outside of the home as well, such as going for a walk or out for a meal.

  • Encourage, support and pray for the individual.

  • Submit monthly reports to Volunteer Coordinator.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Patience and Kindness

  • Good listener

  • Have a genuine concern for isolated people

  • Own a vehicle in good working condition

  • Good driving record and valid license

Time Commitment: Approximately two hours every other week.

Job Title: Senior Companion

Summary of the Position: Visit with and provide some homemaking care and support to a senior who is living on their own in order to decrease their isolation and enable them to live independently for as long as possible.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Attend Volunteer Orientation

  • Develop relationship with senior

  • Help with miscellaneous needs that come up such as grocery shopping, minor cleaning and organization, and rides to doctor’s appointments

  • Encourage, support and pray for senior

  • Submit monthly reports to Volunteer Coordinator

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Patience and Kindness

  • Good listener

  • Own a vehicle in good working condition

  • Good driving record and valid license

Time Commitment: Approximately two hours every other week.

Job Title: Reader for the Visually Impaired

Summary of the Position: Visit with and read mail for a visually impaired individual.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Attend Volunteer Orientation

  • Read mail to individual

  • Help with organization of paperwork, perhaps help pay bills and fill out occasional forms as well

  • Support, encourage and pray for individual

  • Submit monthly reports to Volunteer Coordinator

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Patience and Kindness

  • Good listener
  • Genuine concern for visually impaired individuals

  • Trustworthy-will keep confidential material to him/herself

Time Commitment: Approximately two hours every other week.
